CLIVE, Iowa — A Runnells man won the final top prize of the $500,000 CA$H scratch game.

The Iowa Lottery announced that 71-year-old Ronald Tate claimed his $500,000 prize on Wednesday.

Tate told the Iowa Lottery that when he discovered he had a winning ticket he immediately met up with some friends.

“I had the ticket and I showed them, and I said, ‘Now if I show you this, don’t tell anybody,'” Tate said.

Tate is retired and said he’s not sure how he’ll use the money, but he knows that the extra cash will make his life, and his two adult daughters’ lives, better.

“It means I don’t have to worry about anything,” he said. “I’m old enough now that there will be some left over for the girls. That’s all I care about.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s in the 6300 block of SE 116th Street in Runnells. Now that the final prize has been claimed, the CA$H scratch game will be pulled from shelves.
