    Fort Dodge resident hospitalized after being hit by SUV

    FORT DODGE, Iowa — A Fort Dodge resident was seriously injured after being hit by a SUV while crossing a street Friday morning.

    At around 7:53 a.m. emergency crews responded to a report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash at the intersection of 6th Avenue North and North 29th Street. According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, 72-year-old Wen Drew was hit by a 2023 Ford Bronco while crossing N 29th Street.

    Explosive device investigation leads to 2nd arrest

    The crash report states that the driver of the Bronco, 36-year-old Amanda Lawler, stopped at the east stop sign on 6th Avenue North before turning south onto N 29th Street. Drew was struck by Lawler’s vehicle while crossing N 29th Street from the westside crosswalk.

    According to the crash report, N 29th Street doesn’t have painted crosswalk lines between the sidewalks.

    Drew was transported to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a Des Moines hospital via air ambulance.

    An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
