Far past the hustle and bustle of Florida's biggest cities and its enticing tourists attractions, exists a place known by few and loved by all who venture there.

This exceptional location is not traversed often, but those who do get the chance to witness its beauty recall glorious sights and expansive treasures. Referred to as a "hidden gem," this spectacular spot boasts some of the most mesmerizing views and adventurous opportunities in the country, let alone the state.

So, where exactly can you find this unmatched gem of a destination? Today, we're going to reveal not only the name of this perfectly-preserved place, but what exactly makes it so special to travelers, tourists, and dreamers alike.

According to a list compiled by Cheapism , the best hidden gem destination in Florida is Sanibel Island .

Here's what Cheapism had to say about the best hidden gem destination in all of Florida:

"While tourists continue to flock to overcrowded destinations such as Orlando and South Beach, the Sunshine State tucks away a vast expanse of treasures in its many nooks and crannies. On the southwest side of the state, north of the vacation retreat of Sanibel Island, hides a glorious white sand beach accessible only by boat. Wander the shores, listen to the sounds of the waves, and bask in the most welcome lack of other human beings."

Used to be the only way to get there was by ferry which my father always said, "Keeps the tourists and riff raff out". In those days it truley was a gem. Great for getting away, shelling and staying in quaint little cabins and small hotels. Very secluded, no hussle and bussle and oh so relaxing. So the state in its infinite wisdom put in a bridge. My dad was right!
