Again, for those that have not been involved, except form the very beginning there are a few unseen signals in this article that even the author may not be aware. Firstly, Ken Hempill is not a co-founder as if there was only one other person founding Save Marple Greenspace. Ken is one of a group of many involved, early in the original process. Secondly, I vehemently disagree with Mr. Hempill’s constant references to the political makeup of the previous council. Why do I disagree? Because (in my opinion) Mr. Hempill’s constant mention of the previous council smacks of a political motivation and, even more importantly, it has nothing to do with what is going on today. The current county council has the responsibility to follow through with their original promise to use the Don Guanella only for recreation purposes, as Joe Rufo, President of The Marple Commissioners has previously stated. As Mr. Rufo accurately stated, in no meetings with the community, or otherwise, were the residents made aware of County Councils intention to use part of Don Guanella for a mental health facility. So even with my opinions, we all still have the same goal, to use Don Guanella, only for recreation. County Council should realize that because we were all together for the better part of 10 years to help reserve Don Guanella only for recreation and I do not believe any of us are going to retreat at this point.
