INDIANAPOLIS — President Biden has dropped out of the presidential race on the Democratic ticket and has placed his endorsement with Vice-President Kamala Harris.

Biden is stepping aside after several calls from members of his own party to do so. These calls were over concerns of his ability to lead the country during another term after clear signs have been shown that his age may be catching up with him. That was made apparent during a poor debate performance against Donald Trump earlier this month.

Rep. Andre Carson (D-IN-7th) agrees with the decision made by Biden to step aside.

“President Biden effectively made the right decision,” he said on WISH-TV. “I’m confident in Vice President Harris’ ability. I think she is the right person to take on Donald Trump, but there are unprecedented stakes at play.”

Carson was asked to clarify that he is in fact endorsing Kamala Harris for president.

“Absolutely. Absolutely. I’m very supportive of her,” he said.

Harris is scheduled to speak at a sorority event in Indianapolis this week. It’s unclear if her plans have changed in light of President Biden’s decision to drop out of the presidential race.

Carson is optimistic that Harris will be able to bring around any moderate or undecided voters in key swing districts in the House of Representatives.

Indiana’s other Democratic representative in Congress, Frank Mrvan (D-IN-1st), has not been very outspoken on the presidential race. He posted on X saying “I respect the president’s decision.”
