JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. –There was a fatal crash Monday night in Johnson County.

Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess says it happened on State Road 135 and State Road 44 at around 7:30 pm. It involved a white Harley Davidson motorcycle and a black Ford F-450 truck.

“The truck driver was just on his way home. It’s unfortunate that the accident happened the way it did. No alcohol, drugs, or anything like that was suspected with that driver,” said Burgess.

Burgess said the truck driver told investigators at the scene that the motorcycle didn’t stop at a red light and collided with his truck. Witnesses also corroborated that story by telling police that they saw the motorcycle not stop at the red light.

The coroner has identified the two people on the motorcycle as 56-year-old Michael S. Merriman and 46-year-old Melissa A. Fidler. Both of them are from Indianapolis. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators are still gathering information on it,” said Burgess.

There were no injuries to the Ford F-450 truck driver. He’s been identified as 65-year-old Bruce Kittle of Franklin.

The Trafalgar Police Department assisted Johnson County deputies at the crash scene, along with firefighters from Bargersville and Trafalgar.
