INDIANAPOLIS — You will get a small taste of fall this week before the heat returns Friday and Saturday.

A cool wind system is moving south through Indiana from the Great Lake region, says Meteorologist Matt Eckhoff with the National Weather Service Indianapolis Office. Eckhoff says that wind system not only brings cool temperatures but a chance for rain.

“All that leftover moisture could turn into a few showers and maybe even a thunderstorm. I’m not expecting anything strong or severe,” Eckhoff continues, “this is just weak stuff. Maybe just a light sprinkle or brief downpour that will last five to ten minutes tops.”

Once the rain moves out Sunday, it’ll leave behind cool temperatures throughout most of this week. Temperatures will hover in the low to high 70s.

However, that cool wind system will finally leave Indiana by Friday, which opens the door for the return of summer-like weather.

“That (wind system) kind of diminishes towards the end of the week and we lose that northerly component to the wind,” Eckhoff explains, “it could be a quick rebound. Even 90 degrees by Friday and Saturday.”

Skies will be mostly clear over Indiana throughout this week.
