STATEWIDE –With cooler temperatures and less humidity, the opportunities to catch more fish in Indiana are growing, according to Jay Anglin of Anglin Outdoors which is based in LaPorte, Indiana.

Anglin says the bass fishing, in particular, has really picked up in lakes all across Indiana and the Midwest.

“By mid-August, the sun angle gets a little lower. You have big trees on the bank with some nice shade. So the water temperatures drop anyway. Then you throw in a little cooler weather and you’re getting into a situation where you’re going to get some early salmon, summer steelhead, that sort of thing,” said Anglin in an interview this past weekend on Indiana Outdoors Radio.

Anglin says water temperatures are best when they are between 76 and 78 degrees.

“That’s perfect in a small mouth river. It’s also dropped to the point where you have lower, clearer water,” said Anglin.

He’s been looking forward to a weather pattern like this for awhile because with all of the rain, changing temperatures, and humidity Indiana has dealt with, it’s made time on the water less than ideal.

“As soon as I settle in, I’m like ‘Haha I gotcha now.’ That pattern will last four or five days, but then I’ll have to tell people, ‘Oh I’m sorry that pattern changed. I’m trying to figure it out.’ Post frontal conditions were not good. You might as well have stayed home and watched the news because fishing was terrible most of the time,” said Anglin.

But now with the weather improving, Anglin says you should see more opportunities to catch a fish you might like.

“If we get three inches of rain tomorrow, it’ll eliminate this hot fishing and we’ll have to change patterns. But hey, we’ve been doing that all summer,” said Anglin.
