FRANKFORT — Police are investigating after a 14-year-old was killed and another injured in a crash in Clinton County early Tuesday around 2:00.

Police Chief Anthony Shoemaker acknowledged that he has asked police to conduct an investigation into the event “to be fully transparent on the cause and manner of the crash.”

Shoemaker got a call claiming that a car was observed reportedly driving on a curb and a sidewalk and “appeared to side-swipe a vehicle” as accusations of reckless driving in the Hoke and Washington Avenue area swamped the Clinton County Central Dispatch.

According to police, investigators discovered a 2004 Dodge Durango moving near a Walmart on State Road 28 a few minutes later. It matched the description of the suspect car. The driver of the Dodge Durango failed to stop for police when they conducted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled eastbound on State Road 28 after failing to stop at a red light.

The pursuit took police to County Road 250 East, where the Dodge Durango drove off the south side of the road and rolled over several times before coming to a stop.

Police verified that two 14-year-olds were in the car.

One of the occupants was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders, while the other was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. Their exact state was unknown.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, Clinton County Coroner’s Office, and Frankfort Fire Department all arrived at the scene of the incident.

The police will lead the inquiry into the event.
