INDIANAPOLIS — Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson’s return didn’t go as planned. He opened with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce in the first quarter and later connected with Ashton Dulin for a 54-yard touchdown in the fourth. Despite these big plays, the Houston Texans edged out the Colts, handing them their 11th straight season-opening loss, 29-27, on Sunday.

Richardson added a rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter with 2:14 remaining, bringing the Colts within two points. The play came on 4th-and-goal and was risky, as Indianapolis needed a score, but the game would have been a one-possession contest regardless.

Richardson finished the game completing 9 of 19 passes for 212 yards, with three total touchdowns—two through the air and one on the ground.

Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud went 24 of 32 for 234 yards and two touchdowns. His top target, Nico Collins, caught six passes for 117 yards, including a 55-yard reception.

Houston’s running game caused problems for the Colts’ defense all day. Joe Mixon rushed 30 times for 159 yards, and the Texans accumulated 212 rushing yards.

The Colts will travel to face the Green Bay Packers in Week 2. The Packers will be without their quarterback, Jordan Love, who was injured in their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles
