INDIANAPOLIS –Staffing of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is one of the many concerns Indy FOP President Rick Snyder has about the February 2025 concert featuring Billy Joe and Sting at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis.

In a letter to Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett Thursday afternoon, Snyder said the excitement about the concert announcement was quickly met with the reality of the police officer shortage.

“Unfortunately, the IMPD is projected to lose another 75-100 police officers by the time of this event in just a few short months. All of this raises the question: Who will be providing police services for this world-renowned concert performance? Traffic control, crowd management, event safety and active police response capabilities will be paramount,” said Snyder in the letter.

Snyder argued that many neighborhoods are going without police protection as officers are pulled away to other high demand service areas to ensure appropriate emergency responsiveness.

“Are the residents of Indianapolis expected to subsidize another large downtown event by losing police protection in their neighborhoods while another private-for-profit event receives the police services the taxpayers of Indianapolis have funded with little to no fees to offset such costs?”, said Snyder.

He went on to say that the focus needs to be public safety, but also employee wellness and safe working conditions.

“We look forward to your response and any alternative plans to ensure the safety of the City of Indianapolis as a whole, inclusive of the neighborhoods outside of downtown,” said Snyder in conclusion.
