I-65 Southbound Closure Moved Up Due to Taylor Swift Concert in Indy

INDIANAPOLIS- -A construction timetable has been moved up regarding the temporary closure of Interstate 65 southbound in downtown Indianapolis due to pop singer Taylor Swift’s upcoming concert at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Swift is the highest-grossing female touring act, the first billionaire with music as primary income, and the richest female musician ever.

“We know Taylor Swift is coming to Indianapolis, and we are trying to get out of the way of those folks that are driving to Indianapolis for that Taylor Swift concert in November,” said INDOT Spokeswoman Kyleigh Cramer to WISH-TV.

They’re also trying to get the work done before any weather problems arise. This work is also dependent on the weather, so the construction schedule is subject to change.

Cramer says the planned closure of I-65 southbound between West Street and Alabama Street will now begin this coming Tuesday October 15 rather than on Oct. 18. The project’s planned 16-day calendar means the reopening would be October 31, one day before the first of Swift’s three concert nights. The work is being done for bridge deck patching and joint repairs. Lane restrictions on I-65 southbound will start at 29th street and continue to the point of closure. Traffic will be required to exit at I-65 southbound on West Street.

The following entrance ramps will also be closed starting at 9 pm Tuesday October 15.

• 38th Street eastbound to I-65 southbound
• Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street southbound to I-65 southbound
• 29th Street eastbound and 30th street westbound to I-65 southbound
• 21st Street east and westbound to I-65 southbound
• West street northbound to I-65 southbound

The following exit ramps also will not accessible from I-65 southbound starting at 9 pm October 15

• I-65 southbound to Meridian Street
• I-65 southbound to Michigan Street, Ohio Street, and Fletcher Avenue
• I-65 southbound to I-70 eastbound and westbound

Suggested alternate routes include:

• I-65 southbound to I-465 southbound/eastbound on the west side
• I-65 southbound to I-865 eastbound to I-465 eastbound/southbound on the east side
• West Street to I-70
• I-65 southbound to downtown Indianapolis should exit at or before West Street. Traffic will be required to exit at West Street
