WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The fifth annual Nexstar Spots Awards and Hall of Fame banquet is set for Thursday, July 11, 2024, inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of MSU Texas.
One of three Texoma coaches of an athletic program at a Class 4A or 5A school will be named the Large School Coach of the Year, one of 18 honors being awarded in 2024.
The nominees for the 2024 Large School Coach of the Year are listed below:
Marc Bindel — Rider Raiders Football
With all of the Rider Raiders’ recent success on the football field, it’s hard to believe that the 2024 season saw the Raiders earn their first district title in 16 years.
Bindel led ROHO Football to another 10-plus win season in 2024, outscoring opponents by an average of 21 points or three touchdowns.
Adopting the motto of “Last One, Best One,” Bindel and the Rider Raiders closed out Rider High School with the Raiders’ tenth consecutive playoff appearance.
Jeremy Crouch — Rider Raiders Baseball
Crouch led the Raiders to 26 wins in 2024, a career-high for the head coach and the most victories in a single season for Rider baseball since 2013.
Crouch surpassed the 200 career win milestone as a head coach in 2024.
Most of those 200 wins came with the Raiders, putting him third all-time in Rider Raiders history.
Crouch helped to lead the Raiders to the UIL Class 5A Regional Quarterfinals for the first time since 2016.
Carl Wiersema — Rider Raiders Girl’s Soccer
Wiersema is the longest active tenured coach at a Wichita Falls Independent School District program.
Wiersema wrapped up his 30th season leading the Lady Raiders in 2024, and to no one’s surprise, his team racked up wins.
With a record of 20-2-4, Wiersema led the Lady Raiders to earn its fifth district championship in the last six years, advancing to the UIL Class 5A Regional Final for the second consecutive season.
The Lady Raiders’ 14-game winning streak ended one victory shy of a UIL State Tournament appearance.
The winners will be announced live at the 2024 Nexstar Sports Awards and Hall of Fame Banquet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 11. Contact Kristin Bierne at (940) 691-0003 ext. 1225 for ticket information, or watch live on KFDX 3 and Texoma’s Homepage .
