WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Hurricane Beryl has undergone a rapid intensification going from a tropical storm to a powerful category 5 Hurricane in just a few days.

Beryl is expected to continue tracking to the west-northwest at 22 MPH and should weaken slightly as it continues across the Caribbean and towards the Yucatan Peninsula.

No impacts are expected for Texas at this time, but we will continue to monitor if Beryl can get into the Gulf of Mexico.

Back in Texoma, the same song and dance continues with Heat Advisories and sunny skies for most of the area.

Temperatures will heat up into 100s for the afternoon with some locations in the western counties pushing up close to 110. Heat and sunny skies continue for Wednesday as well.

4th of July, cloud coverage is expected to increase as the stalled-out cold front to the north will begin creeping further south.

Some scattered showers and thunderstorms could develop as the frontal system moves across Texoma, but the timing looks to be during the overnight hours making for a cooler weekend. Afternoon temperatures will dip back down into the 90s for the weekend and start next week.
