WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A man whose 4-year-old son died in a drunk driving wreck in 2019 and who, in 2022, was convicted of drunk driving in a van with the four surviving children from that wreck has now been indicted for injury to a child on November 17, 2023.

Christopher Redmond, Sr., was arrested after an alleged choking incident on Sullivan Street. When an officer arrived, he said a young boy told him to hurry because his sister was being choked by Redmond.

An adult witness on the scene told police he had been called by the children, and they told him Redmond was choking his own daughter. When he arrived, he said he opened the door and saw Redmond had the girl in a chokehold, actively choking her, so he called 911.

Police talked to the girl, who said her father had been choking her just before they arrived and that she had been unable to breathe. According to police, the victim was under 14 years old.

In 2022, Redmond was convicted of DWI after a wreck on Burkburnett Road involving four children.

He had been charged with DWI With Child Passengers but was allowed to plead to just DWI.

According to police, he was driving drunk with his four kids and backed his van into another vehicle twice.

The driver of the other vehicle said Redmond then got onto the roof of the van and started yelling while the children were inside crying. When police arrived, they said he was holding a child, yelling at everyone on the scene, and smelled of alcohol.

The children told police their father didn’t know what he was doing because he had been drinking all day.

In December 2019, Redmond’s son, Christian, died in a drunk driving and speeding wreck on Henry S. Grace Freeway in a van with his four siblings. No one was wearing seatbelts, and Christian was in his mother’s lap in the front passenger seat.

The driver, Migel Matthew, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 60 years in prison.
