WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Finally putting a stop to the triple-digit heat, the cold front is set to move into the region later in the afternoon and into the evening hours of July 4, 2024.

Heat advisories will continue this afternoon ahead of the cold front, with partly cloudy skies. This evening’s cold front will produce scattered showers and thunderstorms, which will be short-lived but could still be a hassle for those heading out for the various fireworks demonstrations.

It’s cooler for Friday as afternoon highs will step back, only reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s across Texoma. Winds will turn out of the northeast following the cold front, allowing some cooler air to settle into the region for the weekend. A handful of afternoon thunderstorms could develop across the area, with most of the storm activity staying below severe criteria. Overnight lows will dip back down into the lower 70s.

This weekend and into the next week, isolated rain chances will continue for the extended forecast, with the afternoon temperatures staying in the 90s for most of the week ahead. A second push of cooler air from the north will arrive on Monday helping keep those temperatures in the 90s to start next week.
