TxDOT: Be alert for major road work in south Wichita Falls

Some roads in south Wichita Falls will get $7.5 million in upgrades over the next few months, meaning motorists are in for some lane closures.

Texas Department of Transportation officials said the work will be done on:

    • Old Jacksboro Highway from East Scott Avenue to U.S. 281.
    • The south leg of Kemp Boulevard from Southwest Parkway to Highway 79.
    • State Highway 79 to FM 1954, the road that leads to Lake Arrowhead.

TxDOT said the contract calls for milling up the existing hot mix and replacing it with a new stone matrix asphalt, which is used for high-volume roadways because it resists rutting and is more durable.

The projects began on July 1 and will last about three months. Flaggers will direct traffic near intersections and when the roads are reduced to one lane.
