A man police alerted the public about on Wednesday was behind bars later the same day.

Wichita County sheriff's deputies arrested John Dewayne Hennan, 39, at his business in Iowa Park in connection with allegations of a June 7 air-conditioning ripoff.

He was charged with theft between $2,500 and $30,000, according to court documents.

Hennan was being held Thursday morning in the Wichita County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to online jail records.

The state jail felony he is charged with is punishable by up to two years behind bars. Anyone accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Wichita Falls police on Wednesday alerted the public to be wary of scams and to be on the lookout for Hennan, who had previously been arrested on charges related to allegations he was paid for air-conditioning repair or installation work that he never did.

The charge on which Hennan was jailed Wednesday involves $14,850 he received as a down payment on air-conditioning work in a business building in downtown Wichita Falls, according to allegations. The owner told police Hennan never did the work.
