WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The city of Seymour is memorializing its long ranching history as part of the Seymour Beautification Project.

Shortly following the Seymour rodeo parade, people flocked to a former gas station site where ranchers were placing their brands on the building. Brands from all over Baylor County are now preserved for the city of Seymour to see on a large wooden frame.

The building, renovated for this event, has “Home on the Range” over the brands, a reference to the city’s cattle-driving history. Vice President of the Seymour Beautification Project Rinell Scott said the success of Saturday’s branding is a victory for the city of Seymour.

“When we sold out on 80 brands, that’s awesome. They flew like hotcakes,” Scott said. “You know, it’s just this history we’re preserving history right now. So, people will be able to look these brands up and see exactly all the history. Each person is going to be turning that in and this is kind of exciting for us.”

The branding was just the latest event for the Seymour Beautification Project. Scott said the committee is planning to renovate several other historic buildings and other sites to preserve the history of Seymour and Baylor County.
