WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A major renovation project is underway, and traffic delays around several overpasses might be expected in the coming weeks. The almost $3 million TxDOT project includes work at six bridges and will require lane closures.

In fact, closures on Kell in the Taft area caused a major traffic backup this morning while crews were on the scene.

The project involves upgrades to the bridge rails and metal beam guard fences.

The bridges that will need repairs are Kell Westbound over Kemp and Taft, Kell Eastbound over Kemp and Taft, the northbound I-44 bridge at the Red River, and the Seymour Highway bridge over the railroad tracks near Smith’s Gardentown.

Be prepared to slow down and merge from the closed lanes and watch for workers and their equipment.
