WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — A Mississippi man is in the Wichita County Jail on charges connected to human smuggling charges against Wichita Falls bondsman Maxie Green.

John Thomas Gomez is facing charges of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity — Human Smuggling.

Gomez was arrested in Harrison County, Miss., in 2022. He was extradited back to Wichita County on Tuesday, July 16.

According to the arrest warrant, in December 2019, the Ward County Sheriff’s Office encountered a white Dodge van occupied by Gomez, two other suspects, and 10 undocumented migrants. During the investigation, it was discovered that Gomez and the other suspects were allegedly transporting undocumented migrants from the Texas border regions to various locations in the United States.

Maxie Green’s role, according to the arrest warrant, was to provide transportation and “stash houses” for the undocumented migrants.

During questioning of suspects, authorities say Green, Gomez and three other suspects were identified as being involved in this human smuggling operation.

Multiple agencies including the Texas Department of Public Safety, United States Border Patrol, and the Department of Homeland Security are investigating this case.

On July 7, Green’s lawyer, Ron Poole, filed a motion to withdraw. His case is not set for trial.

Gomez’s bond is set at $100,000.
