WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The new school year is right around the corner, and one local organization is helping ensure that students have everything they need.
The WFISD Foundation’s Project Back to School provides free school supplies for kids and backpacks for economically disadvantaged students in Wichita Falls. They provide supplies for roughly 6,000 children annually.
WF prepares to host more than 10,000 cyclists for Hotter’N Hell Hundred Each August, the Back to School Roundup offers school supplies, community resource information, health screenings and more to Wichita Falls ISD and City View ISD students.
This year’s Back to School Roundup will be held August 3 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Roy Clymer Exhibit Hall at t he MPEC located at 1000 5th St.
All students are welcome to attend the Back to School Roundup where they can receive information about school and community services, youth programs such as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, assistance programs, as well as immunizations from the Health Department.
Students from City View and Wichita Fall ISDs who qualify for free or reduced lunches are welcome to attend the Back to School Roundup and receive a free backpack and school supplies for the upcoming year, but they aren’t the only ones who are welcome to attend.
“If a child doesn’t qualify, parents can still come down with their kids. They can pick out a backpack and they can pay for the supplies,” PBTS volunteer Seonaid Acevedo said. “Really, it’s a lot cheaper and one-stop shopping.”
Amtrak eyes Wichita Falls as a future stop in railroad system No pre-registration is needed, but a registration card must be filled out for each child before receiving supplies.
Students who qualify for the lunch program must bring proof of eligibility, such as a school letter or Medicaid, CHIP, Lone Star, or SNAP card, to receive their free supplies.
Students at Burgess, Scotland Park, Washington and Zundy elementary schools will receive school supplies and backpacks at their school, not at the Roundup.
