    Did Wichita Falls have an earthquake Friday morning?

    WICHITA FALLS ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Texoma residents felt their houses shake Friday morning, leaving many to wonder if they had experienced a second earthquake in a week.

    At around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, several members of communities across Texoma took to social media, posting statuses in several local groups asking if anyone else felt their homes shaking.

    The posts all had dozens of responses within minutes, leading many to believe they may have felt the tremors of an earthquake.

    As it turns out, those beliefs were not unfounded.

    According to the United States Geological Survey , an earthquake occurred near Hermleigh, Texas , at around 9:28 a.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024, with a magnitude measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale .

    The website also listed a second earthquake, or aftershock, in the same area at 9:40 a.m. It registered as 3.2 on the Richter scale.

    The USGS reported the epicenter of the earthquake was 13 kilometers (about 8.07 miles) northeast of Hermleigh.

    Tremors were reportedly felt in Lubbock, Abilene, San Angelo, Midland, and the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well, according to data from the USGS.

    No reports of any damage or injuries have been made in Texoma as of the publication of this story.
