Proceeds from some local fireworks sales also go toward charitable causes

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Fireworks sales are reaching their peak in the days leading up to Independence Day, especially this year now that the City of Wichita is allowing aerial fireworks.

But one aspect of the big sales is who the profits benefit.

Under the umbrella of Wholesale Fireworks, much of the proceeds go to local churches, schools and other organizations.

“Different groups run it for different labor amounts,” operations manager for Wholesale Fireworks Jacob Marietta said.

Marietta says the fireworks business is heavily involved with non-profits.

“There’s hundreds, so I think we’re in the 99 percentile of non-profit groups that run our tents,” Marietta said.

It takes a lot of volunteers from these various groups to make the sales happen.

“Fireworks is a big labor, so you know it takes a lot of people to put on this on the holiday and that, so I’ve been in this for five generations, and it’s been that way my entire life,” Marietta said.

Marietta says the hard work by the volunteers to make something good come from the sales shows the amount of effort they are putting into the community.

“I think it’s always impressive and just a great sign of community where you have these groups that are out there in the community meeting people, talking to people and raising money to literally put right back into the community for different things,” Marietta said.
