Wichita native proves to be among the world’s best in youth girls golf tournament

A Wichita native is cementing her status as one of the best youth golfers not only in the country, but in the world.

Meg Tilma, a senior-to-be at Classical School of Wichita, finished tied for third in the 15-to-18 age division at the IMG Academy Junior World Championships in La Jolla, California last week. The tournament features many of the top youth golfers from around the world.

Tilma fired a 9-under total of 207, just two strokes off the winner, in the 54-hole tournament played at the prestigious Torrey Pines Golf Course near San Diego. China’s Arianna Lau won the title, while Tilma tied with Taylor Baker of Sacramento for the top American score in the international field.

Considered one of the top golfers in the class of 2025 , Tilma is verbally committed to the University of Oklahoma women’s golf team. Her older sister, Kate, just completed her sophomore season as a standout on the Wichita State women’s golf team.

Competing against mostly current college golfers, Meg Tilma recently placed fifth in the Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship last month. She competes against top-notch competition year-round, primarily in the region, but also wherever national tournaments are held. Her list of tournament victories include the 2021 Sunflower Girls Championship .

Tilma did compete for the Kapaun Mt. Carmel girls golf team during her first two years of high school, notching a pair of top-three finishes at the Class 5A state meet and helping lead the Crusaders to a pair of team championships. Tilma also shattered the City League scoring record as a freshman in 2022 when she shot a 9-under round of 49 at Sierra Hills Golf Club.

She has since transferred to Classical, where she did not play KSHSAA competition this past fall. Tilma is also a standout forward on the Classical girls soccer team, recently earning second team all-state honors in Class 4-1A.
