WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Police Department is looking for a suspect who allegedly pistol-whipped a man in downtown Wichita.

According to Wichita Police Department Lieutenant Joe Camp, officers were dispatched a little before 1 p.m. to the report of a cutting in the 900 block of N. Broadway.

As officers were headed there, the call got switched to a shooting.

When officers arrived seconds later, they found a man who had an injury to his head. He was taken to a local hospital for the treatment of his non-life-threatening injuries.

The WPD later told KSN the victim’s injury to his head was caused by being pistol-whipped. When the suspect pistol-whipped the victim, the firearm discharged, causing the change of the call. No one was struck by any bullets.

After talking to the victim and witnesses, Camp says the suspect and victim probably knew each other.

“No, the suspect is not in custody,” said Camp. “But like I say, the suspect and victim were known to each other, so it’ll be a matter of time when we can find the suspects and talk to them, and I don’t think there’s any danger to the public as a whole because this is a known suspect-victim situation.”

    An investigation is ongoing.
