Approximately 4,100 Wichita voters who usually cast their ballots at Heart of Christ Church are being notified of a temporary change that assigns them instead to vote at Linwood Recreation Center for the Aug. 6 primary.

The change affects residents in precincts 105, 130 and 339. The air conditioner in the church at 856 S. Green went out, and it’s not expected to be replaced in time for primary voting, a representative in the church office told The Eagle.

“It is anticipated the HVAC system at Heart of Christ should be fixed in time for voters to cast ballots at this location for the Nov. 6 General Election,” Sedgwick County said in a Monday news release.

“All voters affected by this polling location change will receive a letter in the mail from the Sedgwick County Election Office with their new, assigned polling site in bold lettering.”

Early voting is an option for affected residents who don’t want to navigate a new polling station on primary day.

Early voting by mail is under way. Residents can request a ballot by July 30 .

Early voting in person began Monday at the Sedgwick County Election Office in the historic courthouse at 510 N. Main. It will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Aug. 2 and then 8 a.m. to noon on Aug. 5. Additional satellite voting centers will open July 30.
