    Free summer food program coming to an end, Filling the Gap to begin

    WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – School is right around the corner for most children in Kansas.

    In Wichita, the summer food program ends on Friday, July 26, and the Kansas Food Bank’s Filling the Gap will start on Monday, July 29. It is a two-week distribution with easy-to-open and easy-to-eat breakfasts and lunches each week (5 days of food distributed).

    This year’s Filling the Gap distributions will be held at five sites across the Wichita metro on Monday, July 29, and Monday, Aug. 5, from 12-1 p.m.

    Locations:

    • South/Southeast: Colvin Neighborhood Resource Center – 2820 S. Roosevelt
    • North/Northwest: Evergreen Neighborhood Resouce Center – Parking Lot of 2700 N. Woodland
    • North/Northeast: HealthCore Clinic – 2707 E. 21st St N.

    The following two sites will be distributed on Aug. 5 only:

    • Oaklawn: Oaklawn Activity Center – 4904 S. Clifton
    • Haysville: Haysville United Methodist Church – 601 E. Grand Ave.
    Surprise announcement: Baby bears arrive at Sedgwick County Zoo

    The distribution is open to any child 18 and under, and no pre-registration is necessary. All children must be present to receive food assistance. Call the Kansas Food Bank with questions at 316-265-FOOD.

    The first day of school in Wichita is Aug. 14.
