BALTIMORE — The families of two Maryland fallen heroes received an early Independence Day gift, thanks to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The non-profit charitable organization on Tuesday paid off the home mortgages of late Baltimore City Fire lieutenant Paul Butrim and Wicomico County Sheriff’s deputy Glenn Hilliard.

Before Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy First Class Glenn Hilliard was killed in the line of duty in 2022, he and his family had bought and moved into what was to be the family’s forever home in Berlin. Since she lost her husband, Tashica Hilliard has completed nursing school and advocated and testified for tax changes to benefit the families of fallen heroes, but before he died she says that he was the sole provider for their family of five. Now, in honor of the 4th of July, the Tunnel to Towers Fallen First Responder Program has paid off the mortgage on the Hilliard’s home – to alleviate the financial burden of a mortgage for his family and to allow them to continue to heal in the home they shared.

BERLIN, MD - The Tunnel to Towers Foundation has paid off the mortgage on the home of Wicomico County Sheriff’s Deputy Glenn Hilliard in honor of July 4th. According to the Foundation, Hilliard and his family chose the home in Berlin before Hilliard’s murder two years ago. On June 12th, 2022, Hilliard was in pursuit of convicted felon Austin Davidson when Davidson turned and fatally shot the Sheriff’s Deputy.

Joint Firearms Suppression Initiative in Wicomico County Nets Weapons and Drugs
A firearms suppression initiative in Wicomico County in June resulted in the recovery of multiple weapons, drugs and the arrest of five people. The Salisbury Police and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office joint initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety and deterring criminal activity involving firearms. Officers and deputies conducted 48 traffic stops and 18 field interviews which led to multiple arrests and the recovery of five illegal firearms – two were reported stolen. A variety of drugs was seized – including over 22 grams of cocaine, 37 grams of heroin and 21 oxycodone/fentanyl tablets. Police encourage community members to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to make Salisbury and Wicomico County safer places to live.
