Private firm to take over Jackson’s engineering duties, following council vote
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - A private firm will soon take on engineering duties for the city of Jackson, at least for the next year. On Tuesday, the city council approved a $700,000, one-year contract with Al-Turk Planning and Development to provide services that would typically be provided by Jackson’s Engineering Division.

Seven Ole Miss Rebels are competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, which kicked off last Thursday and will conclude on Aug. 11. Long set a personal best of 21.83 in the 200-meter in Eugene, Oreg. last June. With that time, she set an Ole Miss record and is No. 2 in collegiate history, T-No. 10 in U.S. history and T-No. 24 in world history. She is one of six women to sweep the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay in the NCAA championships.
VPD Addresses Officer Videoed Swerving on the Highway
The Vicksburg Police Department is addressing a VPD officer captured on video swerving on the highway. Here is a direct link to the video. The video of the VPD officer swerving across lanes on the highway was posted by a concerned citizen. Lady Eagles fell short in season opener against Madison St. Joe
In their season opener, Porter’s Chapel Academy‘s Lady Eagles took a loss to Madison St. Joe in game one but hung in tight in game two. In game one, PCA fell short 14-4 Mia Abdo led the Lady Eagles with two hits. Natalie Cantin hit a double and two RBIs while Marley Bufkin and Brooklynn Nicholson had a hit.
