Highway 12 reduces road closure from the Gwen Fire
JULIAETTA, Idaho — According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the Gwen Fire has grown to 26,264 acres. Idaho Department of Lands said Highway 12 has partially reduced its closure due to the Gwen Fire. The highway is now closed only to the Lenore Rest Area near milepost 28.
Coroner IDs Meridian man who died in house fire
The man who died in a house fire last week has been publicly identified. Norman Duncan, 84, was pronounced dead on Saturday morning following a Friday evening house fire on West Vaquero Lane in Meridian, the Ada County Coroner’s Office announced Thursday. The Meridian Fire Department responded to the fire at around 7 p.m. Friday, July 19, and Duncan died at the scene, as previously reported. Twelve units responded to the fire and it took approximately 30 minutes to extinguish. Duncan’s cause and manner of death are pending, the coroner’s office said.

Crews Battling new 1000 Acre Lightning-Caused Wildfire in Nez Perce County
JULIAETTA - Nez Perce County, about 5 miles southwest of Juliaetta, just south of the Latah County line. Incident Overview: Firefighters are battling the Gwen Fire, a new lightning-caused fire that started around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The blaze, currently burning grass and brush in steep canyon terrain, was estimated to be about 800 acres in size as of 9:30 a.m. on Thursday has now grown to 1000 acres. No containment had been achieved at that time.
Rexburg police try to identify vehicle involved in hit-and-run that hurt teenager
REXBURG — Police are trying to identify a driver they believe is involved in a hit-and-run incident that hurt a teen on a bicycle. The Rexburg Police Department is asking for the community’s help after posting a picture of a white Acura TLX. The post said it’s possibly a 2013 or 2014 model. The photo above is the actual vehicle involved, obtained by video surveillance, police said.

New mocktail bar brings active night life to downtown Rexburg
REXBURG – Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name … or at least the type of environment you enjoy hanging out in. The latter is the focus of a new mocktail bar at 32 College Avenue in Rexburg called Fizz Rizz. The non-alcoholic bar opened July 4 and offers daiquiris, pina coladas, margaritas, flavored sodas and more. It also has pool tables and arcade games. LAPWAI - An Air Quality Advisory has been issued for the Nez Perce Reservation due to smoke from wildfires. This advisory will remain in effect until Friday, July 26, at 10:00 AM. Wildfire smoke may move in and out of the area depending on fire and wind activity, impacting some areas more than others. No EPA/NPT burn permits will be approved during this period.
