WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A nearly year-long project has come to fruition for a house of worship.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Saturday in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilkes-Barre.

The event commemorated what’s called Gather Community Space.

It’s intended to be a safe space for people of all ages to get together for workshops, various activities, and social events.

The wall mural features a colorful design and welcoming words. Leadership Northeast adopted the project.

“We all really wanted to create something that was sustainable, that the entire community could enjoy and this just fit perfectly together,” said Maegan Zielinski a member of the Leadership Northeast class of 2024.

“I really wanted to focus on bringing in elements of what gather is at its core and what it’s going to provide to the community,” says Ursula Brozena an artist/designer.

Gather community space is considered an independent, Secular Community Center including public and private events.
