WILKES-BARRE — A man from Wilkes-Barre admitted to hiding a trail camera to secretly record a woman in her bedroom.

Ruben Suquilanda, 41, of South Franklin Street, pled guilty to invasion of privacy before Luzerne County Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr.

Wilkes-Barre police charged Suquilanda after the woman discovered the trail camera while cleaning the bedroom of her residence on South Grant Street on March 7, 2023, according to court records.

Suquilanda previously worked with the woman and wanted to date her, court records say.

Police in court records say Suquilanda routinely stopped at the woman’s house bringing her gifts and her favorite popcorn.

When Suquilanda would show up at the woman’s house, a Ring doorbell camera recorded him attempting to open the front door when the woman was not home, court records say.

The trail camera was hidden on a shelf in the bedroom that faced the woman’s bed.

Police said the trail camera, which was activated by motion, recorded the woman changing clothes and being nude, court records say.

Suquilanda admitted to police, court records say, to hiding the trail camera in the woman’s bedroom but never retrieved the memory card.

Police believe the trail camera was placed on the shelf in February 2023.

Suquilanda is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 17.
