WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes-Barre City Mayor George C. Brown toured Trion Industries on Monday, July 15, with Adam Thalenfeld, president of the company.

Brown said Trion Industries has a wonderful history in the City of Wilkes-Barre and many of its employees have been with the company for more than 30 years. Before being elected as Mayor of Wilkes-Barre, Brown had a career in the manufacturing industry.

Trion Industries began in Brooklyn, New York, in 1965, as a partnership between three friends, including David “Bud” Thalenfeld, who owned a chain of five-and-dime stores.

Trion grew and moved several times, from Great Neck, N.Y., in 1970, to Garden City, N.Y., in 1977.

In 1975, David’s son, John, joined the company, taking a position in the warehouse and doing shipping. In 1982, the firm moved to its present location in Wilkes-Barre.

Mayor Brown said the company says that the keys to its growth have been its ongoing investment of profits in new equipment and automation, an exceptional workforce of loyal, long-term experienced employees, and a dedicated supervisory staff.

“The innovation and creativity of the Trion team and the engineering staff have resulted in more than 120 patents, and additional product growth for the company,” Mayor Brown said.

David Thalenfeld passed away in May 2009. Following John Thalenfeld’s passing in February 2024, his children, Adam and Rebecca Thalenfeld, became the third generation of Thalenfeld family ownership.
