New Jersey Little League softball coach upset about decision to end state title game: ‘Gut-wrenching’
A New Jersey 12U softball team’s hopes of reaching the Little League World Series were dashed last week after a controversial state championship game. The state championship between Toms River and Hanover Township was suspended due to lightning with Hanover leading 6-4. The game was stopped at the start of the sixth inning because of the weather, but tournament officials initially said the game would be played the next day.
Suspicious bank transaction suspects led police on chase
Scranton, Lackawanna Co. — Scranton Police were called after a suspicious person attempted to conduct a bank transaction at Community Back in the 500 block of Davis Street. Bank personnel became suspicious when the person inside in the bank struggled to properly answer questions related to the personal identification information.
Scranton Mayor Cognetti says she's heartbroken by Biden dropping out of presidential race
In the last three years, Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti and President Joe Biden got to know each other pretty well. Cognetti regularly visited Washington, D.C., joined Biden at issues-related events and met with him to discuss matters affecting the city. When the president visited Ireland in April 2023, Cognetti met him there, too. In February, Biden appointed Cognetti to a committee of about 45 people who advise him on trade policy and negotiations.
Keystone College Observatory Announces Summer Sessions
The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will offer a four-week summer schedule which began on Wednesday, July 17, and continues each Wednesday and Friday evening from 9 – 11 p.m. through Friday, August 16. The sessions are provided free of charge as a service to the community. Advanced registration or reservations are not required.

Commonwealth Court denies East Union gun range
ONEIDA – A state appeals court ruled against a property owner looking to open a gun range near this East Union Township village last month. A three judge panel of the Commonwealth Court heard arguments on May 7 from Cogan Properties, LLC and its principal, Dan Cogan. The company sought East Union Township zoner approval in 2022 to open a gun range on a 526-acre property west of Oneida.
