The East Wilkes High School Class of 2024 celebrated their high school graduation at a commencement ceremony held June 4 in the school gymnasium.

“The Senior Class of 2024 at East Wilkes High School will long be remembered as a class of impact,” said Principal Dustin Webb. “These students have faced years of adversity that began in middle school and continued all through the COVID years. Through it all they have remained consistent and committed to one another and to their success in school and on the courts and fields.”

Webb went on to describe the class of 2024 and its successes.

“This is a diverse class that has excelled over a variety of pathways at East High and in our community,” he said. “Across all of our extra curricular activities these students have made an impact that will be felt for years to come. We are very proud of their perseverance, grit, determination, and poise under pressure that they have shown throughout middle and high school.”

Webb said he knew the students would continue making an impact as they pursued further education, jobs and more after high school.

“A majority of our students in the Class of 2024 are planning to continue their education at Wilkes Community College, while some plan to join the military or enter the workforce, while others plan to attend four year universities,” said Webb. “As they always have, I am confident that this class will continue to make a positive impact in their respective fields as they grow. Whether they remain in Wilkes county, or travel to other parts of the world, I know they will be a force to be reckoned with.”

“On behalf of East Wilkes High School and our entire school community, I want to say to the Class of 2024 — We are proud of you and we know you will make an impact on the world. Never be afraid to go out into the world and contribute, but always remember your way home,” Webb concluded.
