We would like to make the Citizens of Wilkes County aware of a New Scam. We have had 2 reports of Scammers calling citizens using Wilkesboro Police Officer Names. The Police Department's phone number shows on caller ID and the scammer is telling citizens that immediate action is required or they would be arrested. After this the scammer is soliciting information from the citizen.
Wilkes County Man Charged With Strangulation In Catawba County
30-year-old Matthew Ryan Billings of North Wilkesboro was arrested Saturday (July 6) by Hickory Police Officers. He’s charged with assault by strangulation. Following the arrest, Billings was jailed in the Catawba County Detention Facility under $15,000 bond, a District Court date is July 29.
Carl Henry Anderson
Carl Henry Anderson, 72, of Wilkesboro, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2024, at Atrium Health-Wilkes Medical Center. Mr. Anderson was born July 3, 1952, in Wilkes County to Arthur and Della Mae Brown Anderson. He was a U.S. Marine veteran, serving in Vietnam. Carl was of the Baptist faith and a saved Christian. He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing, golfing and going to the beach. He was one who loved Life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse, Barbara Anderson; son, Curt Anderson; brother, Arthur Wayne Anderson; and sisters, Norma Jean Moore and Phyllis Diane Bowers.
