WILKESBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A pedestrian was killed in a Sunday morning crash in Wilkesboro followed by a crash involving a fire truck.

According to a Facebook post by the Wilkesboro Police Department, they received a call around 3:10 a.m. about a car accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Addison Avenue.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

During the investigation by WPD’s crash reconstruction team, traffic was detoured at Winkler Mill Road. During this time, a driver allegedly failed to stop at the detour area and hit an unoccupied WFD fire truck, causing extensive damage to their vehicle and the fire truck. The driver was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.

    The investigation is ongoing.
