It’s lights out for Gallery Pastry Bar. The Star was the first to report that the downtown outpost of the Gallery family of restaurants shuttered on August 11. The restaurant at 110 S. Pennsylvania St. opened in July of 2020, arguably the most challenging time to launch a business in recent history. The well-reviewed spot prevailed, however, with this publication referring to it as “The Beautiful Escape We All Need Right Now.” The IBJ notes that owner Alison Keefer blames “constant sales swings” for the closure. The company’s two other locations, at 4573 N. College Ave. and 319 E. 16th St., remain open.
IEDC secures budget approval for LEAP pipeline in Indiana, land and infrastructure
Indiana’s State Budget Committee on Thursday approved a combined $101 million for a water pipeline, land and infrastructure for a controversial industrial park. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. (IEDC) also landed permission to augment its deal closing fund by a separate $101 million for a battery plant project worth $6 billion.

Cricket tournament raises funds for school supplies
Carmel-based Kriya Shakti Foundation held its first cricket tournament Aug. 10 at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield. The foundation, founded by Carmel residents Badri and Mangala Devathu, pledged to donate a set amount for every boundary and six hit during the tournament. With 137 boundaries and 292 sixes across 51 matches, a total of $1,871 was raised for school supplies and backpacks for children in need. The Punjabi Strickers were the tournament champions and the IUPUI team was runner-up.
Public Safety Day provides education, up-close encounters
Representatives from the Carmel Fire Department, Carmel Police Department, Carmel Utilities, Bike Carmel and many other agencies filled the parking lot at 11611 N. Meridian St. Aug. 17 for the annual Public Safety Day. At the event, attendees got an up-close look at public safety vehicles and had the opportunity to visit with professionals and volunteers.
