Valley Metro Proposes Expanding Bus Service To Willacy County
Valley Metro, the Rio Grande Valley’s public transit service, is proposing what would be the first bus route to Willacy County. The proposed expansion would add a route between Harlingen and Raymondville with stops in Sebastian and Lyford. Valley Metro’s Tom Logan says results of a community survey showed the need for additional service. He says another survey will be done to get input from Willacy County residents as to their specific needs, such as rides to work, school, or a doctor’s appointment.

A 47-year-old man is in custody after he was found behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle in Lyford, according to a news release from the Willacy County Sheriff’s Office. Johnny Anthony Flores was identified as the driver arrested on Saturday in connection with the theft, the news release stated.

Valley meteorologist breaks down recent tornado warnings
Two tornado warnings were issued late Wednesday night in Hidalgo and Willacy counties by the National Weather Service Brownsville-RGV station. The warnings came amid the arrival of Tropical Storm Alberto. NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Barry Goldsmith said the warnings were issued after their radar picked up the conditions for a potential tornado.
