BELOIT — The weather was great but the golf was even better for the 64th annual Southern Wisconsin and Northern Illini (SWANI) Golf Tournament held at the Krueger-Haskell Golf Course on Saturday.

Williams Bay’s Gordy Gaylord rose above a jumbled leaderboard to win the Championship Flight Division as he edged out 2022 Hononegah graduate and Rockton native Cade Bastian.

Gaylord and Bastian, a junior golfer at the University of Dubuque, both shot a 71 on a warm and sunny morning in Beloit but the Williams Bay resident had the former Indian beat in a scorecard playoff.

The duo finished two shots ahead of Nick Hagen and Collin Brockwell, who both finished with a 73.

Every shot was crucial on Saturday with a slew of golfers stuffing the scoresheets with outstanding scores. Zack Colby, Brian Silvers, Daytona Chandler and Larry Stankewitz all shot a 74 while 2022 Beloit Memorial graduate Griffin Oberneder had a 75 and Austin Foley was right behind with a 76.

Chris Harris finished first in the A Flight Division as his score of 77 edged Rafael Ramirez’s 78. Eric Arnold was third with an 80, Jeff Adas was next with an 81 while 2023 Beloit Memorial graduate Kai Wong was next.

Scott Huffman repeated his title and had the best net score in the B/C Flight Division as his 66 helped him finish well above Brad Heyerdahl’s 70.

In the Senior Division, Bruce Foss walked away the winner after shooting a 68, one-shot ahead of last year’s champion Ken Lee.

Jerry Hoey once again served as tournament director for the 18-hole medal play event.
