There are a lot of community activities in and around Emporia this weekend, and one of those taking place near Emporia is the latest Front Porch Jams concert. Mike and Carla Argabright are hosting at 1154 Road 60 on Friday evening. Proceeds benefit the USD 252 Southern Lyon County Honor Flight program and the Olpe Fitness Park project. One-time Spring Hill elementary could open again as Catholic school
The now-vacant Hilltop Elementary School near Olathe may welcome students again as early as next year as a private school run by the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. Lawrence Virtual School Students Win National STEM Competition. Three Lawrence Virtual School (LVS) students, Lawrence Dao and Daniel Dao, of Lawrence, Kansas, and Eian Pracht of Lindsborg, Kansas, along with team advisor Nancy Jackson won the 8th grade division of the 22nd annual eCYBERMISSION National Judging & Educational Event sponsored by the Army Educational Outreach Program on June 28 at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles hotel in Chantilly, Virginia. The students will each receive a $10,000 savings bond.

Grain Valley-based Ward Development has plans in the works for a mixed-use development in the Kansas City area. KANSAS CITY — The suspect arrested in the July 17, Amber Alert in Kansas is facing multiple charges and remains jailed in Wyandotte County.
