Recent Storms Cause Major Power Outages
With the recent storms that rolled through the local area last night, Galesburg City Administrator Eric Hanson reports the damage seen today as high winds were experienced:. “We have 19 or 20 blocks that are closed due to either downed power lines or downed trees or a combination there of. Crews have been out all night working on that in conjunction with Ameren and BNSF, had a lot of territory through town and had some impact as well. Rural hospitals built during baby boom now face baby bust
OSKALOOSA, Iowa — Rural regions like the one surrounding this southern Iowa town used to have a lot more babies, and many more places to give birth to them. In some Iowa counties, annual numbers of births have fallen by three-quarters since the height of the baby boom in the 1950s and ’60s, when many rural hospitals were built or expanded, state and federal records show.
