Washington and Lee University professor of art history Elliott King was featured in a July 18, 2024 segment of the popular NPR show “All Things Considered.”. The roughly two-minute segment played an interview with King from an earlier NPR article titled “An AI Salvador Dalí will answer any question when called on his famous ‘lobster phone.’” The article and subsequent radio segment focused on how the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to allow visitors to ask questions of the famed surrealist artist who died in 1989. Named “Ask Dalí,” this new museum installation features a copy of Dalí’s famous Lobster Telephone sculpture which visitors can pick up and ask a question. Dali’s AI-generated voice will respond with an answer using generative AI technology.

Former art gallery being considered for apartments, co-work space and restaurant

LURAY, July 25 — A Washington, D.C.-based developer executed a contract on June 10 for the right to purchase the three-story, brick structure at 15 Campbell Ave., formally the site of a local art gallery for more than two decades. A 90-day “study period” will be ending shortly after Labor Day. If plans proceed, the building’s nearly 34,000 square feet will be renovated and converted to apartments, co-work space, a restaurant, gym and music venue, according to plans presented to the Luray Council during its work session on Monday.
Red-tailed hawk to be released at Smith Park on the Roanoke River Greenway on Friday
ROANOKE, Va. – The Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center has just announced it will be releasing a red-tailed hawk into the wild at the Roanoke River Greenway. The hawk was taken in by the wildlife center in May as a fledgling. Attempts to find the parents failed, so it was taken care of up to this point. The cost was estimated to be around $2,000 since he was taken in, which the center claims is the norm.
