Spirit Shoppe creates action plan after selling alcohol to minor
SOUTH DEERFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — The Spirit Shoppe will be reducing their hours across all locations after the Deerfield Police conducted a compliance check at the South Deerfield location. An 18 year old Frontier Regional School student working with the police for the compliance check bought a six pack of beer without having their identification checked. As a result of the violation, the store fired the employee and created an action plan including reducing hours and hiring full-time employees only.
Public input opportunity for state Age and Dementia Action Plan
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — In preparation for updates to the Massachusetts Age and Dementia Action Plan, LifePath, the Franklin Regional Council of Governments, and the Massachusetts Healthy Aging Collaborative will be co-hosting a listening session to collect local feedback for the state on how to be more age and dementia-friendly. Two held without bail in hate crime case
GREENFIELD, MA (FRANKLIN COUNTY NOW) — Two men were ordered held without bail after a dangerousness hearing in a hate crime case Monday. On July 16th, Warren Martinez of Northampton and Thomas Patnode of Greenfield are accused of assaulting a Sunderland store’s employee and another individual after the employee refused to sell them alcohol, leaving them with serious injuries.

Film festival brings together national, state and local creators
Last weekend saw the launch of the Williston Film Festival presented at the Isham Barn Theatre. The two-day noncompetitive event featured several short films, as well as full length features including “King Coal” directed by West Virginia native and Peabody and Emmy winner Elaine McMillion Sheldon, “Joonam” by Vermonter and Sundance Film Festival award-nominee Sierra Urich, and “The Farm Boy” by actor and filmmaker George Woodard, who lives and farms in Waterbury, Vt.

This week, U.S. Senator Peter Welch and 13 colleagues urged the Ambassadors of Israel and Egypt to help critically ill Palestinian children leave Gaza for medical treatment and improve access to life-saving care for children in need. The senators emphasized the importance of not hindering injured children from receiving necessary medical care and called for cooperation to ensure safe passage and increased access to treatment. Meetings with the Ambassadors were also requested to further discuss facilitating safe passage for children in need.
