1 man dead, 1 wounded in downtown Anchorage shooting
Anchorage police are asking the public for help after a shooting downtown early Sunday left one man dead and another seriously wounded. Police said in a statement that officers were dispatched just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday to the shooting, near police headquarters on the 700 block of West 4th Avenue. Seldovia Village Tribe became the first federally recognized Alaska Native tribe to get its TsunamiReady certification, according to a press release from the tribe on July 9. This comes from the National Weather Service and shows that a given community has a plan in place if a tsunami hits. It includes preparation, mitigation and response steps. These range from updating maps that show areas that would be hit by a tsunami to giving community presentations on what to do during a natural disaster.
