The Southern Ozarks Community Orchestra — which is led by a Houston resident and includes Texas County members — will celebrate the arrival of summer with a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 15.

The theme is “Garden Party” and will be performed at the historic Star Theatre in downtown Willow Springs. Tickets at the door are $10 for adults and children under 12 are free.

This concert features some musical selections like “Poem for Orchestra” by Tatgenhorst, “Summer Dances” by Balmages and “Summertime” by Gershwin.

Other selections: A Scottish piece by Ticheli called “Loch Lomond” and even some “Sea Shanties.” For added drama, the program includes “Berceuse and Finale” by Stravinsky. Lovers of Josh Groban will enjoy a medley of his hits including “The Prayer,” “You Raise Me Up” and “To Where You Are.” Fun pieces include, “St. Louis Blues” by Handy, “Dance of the Hours” by Ponchielli and “Celebration!”

The orchestra is directed by Jodie Forbes, a retired Houston music educator, and sponsored by the Willow Springs Arts Council. This is the 15th year for the orchestra in Willow Springs and members include musicians of all ages from the surrounding area.
