WILLS POINT, Texas ( KETK ) – On Thursday night, someone crashed into a monument in Downtown Wills Point and heavily damaged it.

“The symbol and a drawing of the monument is on our city letterhead and city documents. Certainly, we want to keep it,” Mike Jones, Wills Point mayor, said.

The monument was donated by the Rose brothers in 1916, they were German immigrants that started a mercantile business in Wills Point. At the time they donated it, the monument was used as a watering trough for horses and other animals, and is an iconic piece of Wills Point history.

The mayor added that the woman who hit the monument with her vehicle had to be taken to the hospital and the cause of the wreck is under investigation.
