According to the release, the mayor reassures residents that there are plans to restore the monument, but also that it will take time due to the investigation that is being done regarding the crash.
“Please don’t confuse our silence thus far with inactivity on our part,” Jones said. “Our police department, along with the Van Zandt County District Attorney’s Office, is continuing the investigative process to provide the best outcome for moving forward. We have met with local contractors and will continue to seek professional advice on how to suitably reconstruct the monument in the best fashion.”
Jones recognized the importance of the monument to the history and community of Wills Point.
“Be assured we share the nostalgia and fond memories of ‘circling the monument’ on many weekend nights. It will be restored and work will start as soon as reasonably possible,” Jones said.
