SHOREWOOD, Ill. (CBS) – Neighbors in southwest suburban Shorewood believe they were hit by a tornado on Monday night.Some of the heaviest damage was on Canterbury Lane, where there were reports of people hurt inside a home that had part of its roof torn off.The whole neighborhood was cleaning up on Tuesday, including one family who was grateful for the extra help from local high schoolers.Jeff Jaworski suspected a tornado tore through Shorewood Monday night."It came through, and it's only like three houses wide," he said. Demolition Has Begun At OLA But You Wouldn’t Know It By Looking At The Front Of The Building
The demolition of Our Lady of Angels in Joliet has begun. As first reported by WJOL in October of 2022 the retirement home was on life support and would be closing soon. The last residents left the building at the end of January in 2023 with a final mass held on February 11, 2023. Since then the Sisters of St. Francis nuns have held estate sales to sell furniture, pianos, office supplies and more to the public. While you can’t see the demolition from the front of the building, there is fencing surrounding the building. Gould Brothers Construction from Joliet is handling the demolition which has begun in the rear of the sprawling building at 1201 Wyoming Avenue on Joliet’s west side.
6-year-old boy dies after going into Kankakee River, about 50 miles south of Chicago
KANKAKEE, Ill. (CBS) -- A 6-year-old boy died after going into the Kankakee River, about 50 miles south of Chicago, on Tuesday afternoon. Kankakee police and fire were called to Beckham Park on Cobb Boulevard a little after 3 p.m. for a report of a boy who had gone into the river, according to Kankakee Mayor Christopher Curtis.

Sixty-seven Sandburg student-athletes earned Academic All-NJCAA Region 4 honors for the 2024 spring semester. Honorees had to achieve at least a 3.0 grade point average and pass a minimum of 12 credit hours to earn the distinction. Among Sandburg’s recipients, 44 had a GPA of 3.50 or better. Nineteen Chargers had a perfect 4.0 GPA, and each Sandburg team was represented within that group of student-athletes with an unblemished GPA.

Parts of northern Illinois shook Monday as a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the early morning hours. The earthquake was centered northwest of the DeKalb County village of Somonauk. The body of a 6-year-old boy was recovered from the Kankakee River late Tuesday afternoon, hours after he fell into the river from a dock, according to officials. According to Kankakee mayor Chris Curtis, the boy fell off a dock at 1600 Cobb Boulevard at approximately 3:08 p.m., with rescue efforts beginning shortly afterwards.
